Last Thursday was such an exciting day in my experience as a new member of Kappa Delta.
This past week was big/little week and it was such a blast. Since joining I’ve discovered that different sororities and even chapters do things a bit different so I though I’d share with y’all how we do it!
Our bigs give us a laundry basket full of gifts at initiation so this week was supposed to be little prizes but my big outdid herself. Baked goods, my favorite candies, notepads, a necklace, a scarf, buttons, and multiple other goodies were the perfect surprises throughout the day!
More importantly than the prizes each day, we were given clues to “help” us reveal our bigs identity. We quickly figured out that most of the clues were lies which didn’t really help us narrow it down but was fun nonetheless.
Thursday, reveal day, came and I know all the members in my pledge class were dying to know who they would get to call their big and so was I. I had a slight idea but was still uncertain and couldn’t wait for 5:10 to come around! All the new members met in front of our gym and were given t-shirts to wear for the reveal and more importantly, a fake license plate (mine was the license plate Kate Spade clutch that says OFFWEGO, how fitting!). Once we were all good to go we ran up a hill to a parking lot where the cars were parked. The idea was that every member of a family was inside of a car with that fake license plate attached and they would pop out once you got there but none of us have patience for that! Instead, the families had signs, flowers, and goodies waiting for you once you discovered who your big was!
I was so so so excited to see that Caroline was my big and was glad to have quickly spotted her among the crowd of people! My new family was there as well taking pictures and excitement that comes with the reveal!
After that, each family hopped into their car and the whole chapter headed to YoMo for some fro yo before families went their separate ways for dinner!
Caroline is awesome, fashionable, and all around so sweet and I am so lucky to have her! Throughout the whole week everyone kept telling me that my big and I are the perfect pair and I think they are right!
I can not wait to get to know my family and especially Caroline even more and I am so glad to have such a fun group of girls to look up to. The whole experience was so fun and the best part is that it is just beginning!
